How Do You Explain Health Literacy to Others?

Greetings!

When friends or family ask, "What is Health Literacy", sometimes finding the words can be a challenge. I personally struggle to find a way to explain what Health Literacy in a way that could include both myself and the other person. When we receive a large quantity of information, under stressful conditions, while slightly distracted, the results can be varied for us all.

U.S. News and World Report recently spoke to the the wide spread nature of low Health Literacy. The did so in a very inclusive way. Some articles can isolate Health Literacy problems to gaps in secular education or socioeconomic challenges. While these are important considerations, as we know, low Health Literacy is not limited to the poor and undereducated.
